Question: What is Uninsured Motorist Coverage?

The purpose of Uninsured Motorist Coverage is to protect the insured (and additional
insureds) from the risk that a negligent driver of another vehicle will cause injury to the
"insured" and will not have coverage to compensate the injuries caused by the driver's
negligence.

Question: What is the definition of Uninsured?

The uninsured motor vehicle is defined as a land motor vehicle or trailer:

1. for which no liability policy or bond applies at the time of the accident (This is the most
common definition of an "uninsured motor vehiclie.)

2. for which an insuring or bonding company either
a) denies coverage
b) is or becomes insolvent (this rarely happens)
c) is or become involved in insolvency proceedings

3. That is a hit-and-run vehicle, and neither the driver nor owner can be identified, and which
hits an "insured" vehicle.
